For decades, neurostimulation has been a well-established and well-documented modality for treating the chronic pain of neuropathy at its source, reducing pain up to 70% or more for a large majority of patients. Neurostimulation is a drug-free alternative to traditional pain management, requires only a minimally invasive procedure, and can be easily adjusted or combined with other therapies to tailor treatment to individual needs and pain patterns.
CardioVascular Health Clinic is a national leader in integrated interventional care for vascular and cardiovascular health. Our multidisciplinary team of specialists are experienced in managing all types of neuropathy and chronic nerve pain with minimally invasive and highly effective treatment options like neurostimulation. Here, we focus on innovative, patient-centric care that puts you first while targeting the source of your pain, not just the symptoms, so you can live life without pain.
In neurostimulation, mild electrical impulses are sent to specific areas from a tiny implantable pulse generator, or IPG, through thin wires called leads. These electrical impulses help block pain signals before they reach the brain, interrupting the pain cycle. The IPG and leads are placed just under the skin near the nerves associated with your pain, while a wearable therapy disc powers and controls the system.
There are two primary types of neurostimulation.
Stimulating the spinal cord can help block pain signals from several areas of the body, relieving pain in the legs, arms, and back.
By stimulating specific nerves in the peripheral nervous system, PNS therapy addresses pain in the areas served by those nerves, relieving pain and discomfort in the:
Neurostimulation provides an effective, minimally-invasive, and drug-free approach to pain management, and it is covered by most insurance plans, including Medicare and worker’s comp. It can be “test-driven” as a potential solution before implantation, giving you a chance to see if it works for you before committing, and it’s an easily reversible procedure if you change your mind. Neurostimulation is patient controlled and can be combined with other therapies for even better results.
You may be a good candidate for neurostimulation if you have:
At CardioVascular Health Clinic, our providers deliver neurostimulation therapy with the most advanced and innovative devices available. Smaller, less noticeable, and longer lasting than traditional IPGs, our devices are controlled remotely via a therapy disc and smartphone app, require no implanted battery, and can be easily upgraded with advancements as chronic pain therapy continues to evolve.
Before deciding if neurostimulation is right for you, you can try the therapy before implantation. You’ll have the opportunity to wear a temporary device during your day-to-day activities for a trial period, during which you and your physician will evaluate the level of pain relief and improvement in sleep and activity as well as identify optimal locations for lead and IPG placement.
If your trial experience is successful, the experts at CardioVascular Health Clinic will perform a minimally invasive in-office procedure to place permanent leads and a micro-IPG into the designated area.
For PNS, the leads are placed near the affected nerve and IPG placed close to the lead.
For SCS, leads are placed above the spinal cord and the IPG is placed in the hip or stomach area.
Then, you’ll then be instructed on how to control your device and programmed therapy through either a smartphone remote control app or a therapy disc.
You don’t have to let chronic nerve pain define you. Find out if neurostimulation from CardioVascular Health Clinic is right for you and start living your life free from pain.
